INS: Durations

Overview

A Duration comprises a set of parameters (number of days, weeks or months and rounding rules), which defines a date or a length of time that you want the system to use in determining employee eligibility for insurance benefits. In WinTeam Insurance Benefits, Durations are used when setting up the following:

  • waiting period
  • measurement period
  • stability period
  • termination rule
  • no hours rule

You can set up a Duration to measure either a static or variable length of time, the latter of which may be rounded up or down, to start on either the first day of a pay week or the first day of a month.

Example:  If your company's policy is to make benefits available to an employee on the first day of the month after two months of employment, you can set up a duration for that waiting period.

Example:  You can set up one duration for zero days, weeks, and months with no rounding. You can set up another duration for 12 months with no rounding. You can then use these two durations in Eligibility Setup as the start date and duration for the hours of service initial measurement period.

The Durations window may be accessed from the Insurance Benefits Benefit Setup screen General Info tab. First, double-click in the Termination Rule field to display the Termination Rules window. Then double-click in either the Derived from Termination Date or Derived from Processing Date fields to display the Durations window.

The Durations window may also be accessed from the Insurance Benefits Eligibility Setup screen General Info tab by double-clicking in any of the following fields: Waiting Period, Measurement Period Start, Measurement Period End, Stability Start or Stability Duration.

Key Functionality

WinTeam calculates Durations in the following order:

  1. Month(s)
  2. Week(s)
