FA: Adding a Sub Asset

Use this procedure to add a Sub Asset record.

You may want to review the following topics before adding the Sub Asset:

To add a Sub Asset

  1. Follow the procedure provided in Adding a Fixed Asset.
  2. On the Parent ID field, enter the Asset ID of the Parent Asset for this Fixed Asset record, or use the Quick Lookup feature to view a list of all Fixed Assets that are eligible to be Parent Assets.

The Parent Asset ID field allows you to assign one Fixed Asset (known as a Sub Asset) to another Fixed Asset (known as a Parent Asset).

A Fixed Asset cannot be a Parent Asset of itself. Also, a Parent Asset may have many Sub Assets, but these Sub Assets cannot have Sub Assets.

Tip:  Whenever you see an entry in the Parent Asset ID field, the record you are viewing is a "Sub Asset".

Tip:  Whenever you see the "Show Subs" button on a Fixed Asset Master File screen, the record you are viewing is the "Parent" record and has Sub Assets attached to it. Click the button to display a list of the Sub Assets assigned to this Parent record.
